SkyLens Star is an augmented-reality stargazing app. This policy explains what data it touches and where that data goes. In plain language: the app runs entirely on your device, has no servers, no accounts, and sends nothing anywhere.
SkyLens Star has no backend. It makes no network requests of any kind while you use it. There is no account to create, nothing to sign in to, and no data of yours ever leaves your iPhone.
The app needs camera access to show the live view that star labels are drawn over. The camera feed is displayed on screen in real time and nothing more — it is never recorded, never saved to your photo library, never analyzed, and never transmitted. Closing the app ends the feed.
The app needs your approximate location because which stars are above you depends entirely on where on Earth you are standing. Your coordinates are used only for on-device astronomical calculation, in memory, for as long as the app is open. They are not stored, not logged, and not sent anywhere. If you decline location permission, the app falls back to a default location and keeps working — the labels will simply be wrong for where you actually are.
The app reads the device's gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer to know which way you are pointing the phone. These readings are used only to aim the sky overlay and are never stored or transmitted.
One number: the manual compass-offset value you set in the Calibration screen, saved so it survives a restart. That is the entirety of SkyLens Star's persistent storage. Deleting the app removes it.
SkyLens Star contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting services, and no tracking of any kind. It does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, because there is nothing to track.
If you have "Share iPhone Analytics" enabled in iOS Settings, Apple may share aggregated, anonymized crash and usage data with developers. This is Apple's own mechanism, not ours — we can only ever see aggregate numbers, never individual users. You can opt out in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
Object descriptions shown in the detail cards are derived from Wikipedia and licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. They were downloaded once when the app was built and ship inside the app as a static file — the app does not contact Wikipedia at runtime.
The app uses the open-source SwiftAA astronomical library. It is a pure calculation library and has no network or data-collection behavior.
SkyLens Star does not collect information from anyone, including children. There is no user-generated content, no messaging, and no external links other than the Wikipedia attribution link on each detail card.
If this policy materially changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
